Cabrales Group
Our History
Cabrales Group it is the result of a family tradition rooted in the naval and fishing industry, whose origin dates back to the late 1940.The story begins with Don Antonio Cabrales, a visionary from Mazatlan who, along with his brother Don Salvador Cabrales, began his career in the maritime sector at a young age. In search of new opportunities, they both migrated to Puerto Peñasco in the years 50 where they established their first shipyard, dedicated to the maintenance and construction of wooden boats.
During the 1960s, Don Antonio Cabrales decided to expand his horizons and moved to Ensenada, Baja California. At that time, boat repairs were carried out in a rudimentary manner, taking advantage of the tides to beach the ships. With effort and dedication, Don Antonio Cabrales managed to establish a formal shipyard in Ensenada, laying the foundation for the company’s growth. Over time, his children joined the business, consolidating the knowledge and experience acquired over the years.

Dating back to the 1980s, the Cabrales Group was founded by Don Arcenio Cabrales, one of the sons of Don Antonio Cabrales, who ventured into the sardine fishing industry on his own with his first sardine boat called Nazareno, beginning the history of Cabrales Group in the small pelagic industry. Later, in 2009, Don Arcenio Cabrales inaugurated the first steel sardine boat called “Galileo”, consolidating its presence in the fishing industry. At the same time, Don Arcenio Cabrales’ vision of expansion, along with his son Eliat Cabrales, led to the acquisition in 2013 of the property where the first stone was laid for the beginning of a new era in the small pelagic processing industry. Later, in 2014, the first freezing plant was inaugurated, allowing Cabrales Group to process its own catch and reduce its dependence on third parties.

Growth continued with diversification into fishmeal production in2017, implementing technologies acquired in Ensenada and developing new capabilities in the processing line. To2023 and 2024, Cabrales Group has invested in state-of-the-art equipment for oil extraction, hydrolyzed production, and other high-value byproducts, consolidating its leadership in the sector.
Today Cabrales Group is a leader in the maritime and fishing industry, distinguished by its capacity for innovation, resilience, and commitment to excellence. With more than seven decades of history, the company continues to evolve, maintaining the pioneering spirit that characterizes the Cabrales family and ensuring a sustainable future for future generations.
